Fertilising is turf's first line of defence against the harsh elements.
All turf will need to be fertilised at some stage as nutrients in the soil are used to produce new leaf and roots.
Your soil type will determine the frequency that you need to apply fertiliser. Sandy soils leach nutrients faster than clay and heavy soils do and will need regular top ups. Slow controlled release fertilizer types are ideal for sandy soils.
There are also many types of fertilising products and it's crucial you choose the right one based on the type of grass, soil and weather conditions. If not done correctly, you could permanently damage the soil or rapidly accelerate the growth rate.
